telc English B1 Hotel and Restaurant

The examination for professionals in the hotel and restaurant industry

The certificate proves English competence and communicative skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking at level B1.

Structure of the examination

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. Topics and vocabulary come from everyday professional life in hotels and restaurants.

In the B1 examination, test takers complete tasks in all skills. The first part consists of reading, listening and language elements with task types such as multiple-choice questions or matching exercises. In the writing and speaking section, test takers are given a variety of prompts and have to respond, expressing themselves either in writing or orally. In the oral examination, participants can choose between a task for hotel or restaurant. It consists of two role-playing games, which depict typical situations with a guest, and a mediation task with questions about a hotel or a menu.
