What is an inspection?

DTB test takers may view their own answer sheet up to three months from the date of issue of their certificate or result sheet. Inspecting the examination documents can only be carried out in person. The contents of the examination materials and answer keys are highly confidential and for this reason, the documents cannot be taken away by nor delivered to the test taker. This includes copied versions as well as the original documents.

How can I register for an inspection and where will it take place?

An appointment can be made online. You select your location and a date that suits you in our booking tool and then receive an appointment confirmation by e-mail. E-mail and telephone bookings are not possible.

What happens during an inspection?

The inspection takes place in the presence of an invigilator. You will have 15 minutes to view your scanned answer sheet for 15 minutes, e.g. to check whether the answer sheet is actually your handwriting. The inspection covers the following pages of the examination documents (S30 answer sheet):

What is not covered?

You will not see the task booklet.

The correct answers will not be made available to you.

There is no advice and no explanation of how the exam result is achieved.

The inspection does not lead to a reassessment of the examination performance.

What is not allowed during an inspection?

Taking a picture of the answer sheet.

Taking notes.

Using mobile phones, tablets, cameras or wearables.

Eating and drinking.

What should I bring with me on the day?

A valid, official identification document with a photo.

If represented by a lawyer: power of attorney.

Please wear a medical mask to protect against Covid-19 when entering the building and during inspection.

Brief removal of mask for identification is permitted if requested by the invigilator.

What can I do to better understand my examination result?

Contact your examination centre directly or talk to a teacher about your language skills to work out what additional language support would be appropriate to help you reach your goals.

Decisions by examination bodies, invigilators, individual examiners or telc gGmbH can be challenged in writing within three months of the examination results being issued. The appeal must, however, be duly substantiated. Referencing a desired score that has not been achieved is not considered sufficient justification to launch an appeal. Please contact service@telc.net
