The general Spanish examination

Demonstrate your beginner Spanish skills in reading, listening, writing and speaking at level A2. This certificate shows that you can communicate simply in everyday situations.

Structure of the examination

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. 

In the A2 examination, test takers must complete tasks involving all skills. The first part consists of reading, listening and language elements, with task types such as multiple-choice questions or matching exercises. In the writing and speaking section, test takers are given a variety of prompts and have to respond, expressing themselves either in writing or orally. The test taker interacts with a partner as well as with the examiner in the oral section.

telc Spanish A2 is available as a hybrid and paper-based exam. It can NOT be taken as a partial examination. 

In the mock examination, you will find more important details, including a complete set of tests with solutions to prepare at home or in class. You will learn how the examination works and how the written and oral performances are assessed. 

What can learners at CEFR level A2 do?

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) defines six levels of competence: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.  

  • Learners at A2 can understand commonly used expressions.  

  • They can communicate in simple, routine situations that involve a simple and direct exchange of information about familiar and common things.  

  • They can describe their background and education, as well as things related to immediate needs.
