Eaquals International Conference

telc at the 2016 Eaquals International Conference in Lisbon

Eaquals is a non-profit association of teaching centres from over 30 countries which actively supports language education. With its commitment to quality and professional expertise, telc is a proud associate member of Eaquals. The annual conference this year took place from 21 to 23 April 2016 in the beautiful city of Lisbon.

At this year’s conference, Eaquals celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Dr. Augusto Santos Silva, opened the conference speaking on the importance of language teaching in promoting better global understanding. The main subjects of the conference were: teaching and learning; course design; CEFR and assessment; managing for quality; staff development; and business and marketing management. The event was attended by a record number of delegates – 270 people from over 40 countries.

As in previous years, telc was one of the main exhibitors at the conference. At the telc stand, delegates from all over the world could learn about telc’s comprehensive offer. Not only our English Practice Material and the telc Online Placement Test, but also our new materials for teaching German language to migrants were of great interest. telc is considered to be a pioneer in this field.

telc testing expert Sean McDonald held a well-attended workshop on “Best practices in C1 Testing”, focusing on the CEFR criteria for upper language levels and the assessment of these skills.

As always, the Eaquals Conference was an excellent opportunity for networking and sharing ideas with colleagues from all over the world. As Portuguese Minister, Prof. Dr. Augusto Santos Silva said in his talk: The dialogue between nations often starts with friendships on the individual level.

The next Eaquals conference will take place in April 2017 in Riga, Latvia.
