We are subject in particular to:

• the Hessian Disability Equality Act (HessBGG)

• the Hessian Ordinance on Accessible Information Technology (BITV HE 2019), based on BITV 2.0

In May 2025, a comprehensive BITV 2.0 audit was conducted in accordance with EN 301 549 v.3.2.1 (WCAG 2.2 AA). A total of 94 test steps were rated. The result:

• 28 test points were met

• 28 were classified as not applicable

• 38 test points were not met

• A total of 93 barriers were identified, including 1 critical and 84 high-severity barriers

Accessibility issues requiring action:

• Missing or insufficient alternative text for images
• Contrast issues, particularly with buttons and text content
• Missing or inadequate structuring via headings (e.g., duplicate or missing H1 tags)
• Insufficient semantic markup (e.g., landmark structures, labels, roles)
• Missing or incomplete audio descriptions and captions for videos
• Mandatory fields that are not recognizable or form elements that are not accessible

Based on the audit report, we have developed a structured action plan. The goal is to systematically and sustainably eliminate the barriers. Implementation will take place in stages, including through:

• Addressing the issues page by page
• Revising the HTML structure with a focus on semantic correctness
• Creating accessible PDF files
• Improving contrast and focus indicators
• Adding alternative text and labels for forms
• Adaptation of multimedia content (e.g., captions, audio description)
• Training of editorial teams in accessible content creation

We are currently working on a relaunch of our online store, with accessibility being a key consideration from the very beginning. The goal is for the store to be fully accessible once the relaunch is complete.
