telc at the IATEFL conference in Manchester

These were the highlights

Another exciting IATEFL conference, this year from April 11 to 14 in Manchester, has come to an end.

telc – language tests made an impressive contribution with our many workshops, our English examinations and most of all with our fundraiser for IATEFL projects. As a not-for profit organization we are very keen to support charity projects and respect IATEFL’s initiative promoting English language teaching professionals in underdeveloped countries. Julian Sayarer, former round-the-world cycling record holder, and Thom Jones, global English consultant, cycled over 1,100 km from Frankfurt to Manchester and raised over 1,750 GBP for IATEFL projects on gofundme.com. Our two heroes were warmly welcomed at the opening reception by IATEFL President Carol Read, the Lord Mayor of Manchester Susan Cooley and 2,700 international delegates. Deputy managing director Dr. Sibylle Plassmann handed over a check with the donations collected so far and telc – language tests matched all contributions raised by Friday 10th April – reaching a grand total of 3,190 GBP! We hope that many others will still follow us on gofundme.com and help us make our goal: 5,000 GBP for IATEFL projects in the course of the following year. Spread the word and help us to help others!

Once again, telc was one of the key exhibitors at the conference. Equipped with telc’s exclusive eco-friendly conference water bottles, delegates from all over the world visited the telc stand and took part in our five workshops. Our dual-level examinations and the telc Online Placement Test were of great interest. We were especially proud to present the telc English Practice Material – vhs A2-B1 with the authors of the material exclusively at the conference. We were very happy to welcome our vhs family and supporters of telc English! to Manchester and share this experience with them! Further highlights were our “German Hangover Breakfast” and the drawing for English Practice Material. We asked delegates to name the figures in the material, with the winner receiving an iPad. The five finalists are: Skillbros, Telcophonics, Telctatoes, The Beanie Boys and Teenuts. What’s your favourite? Write a message to b.weber(at)telc.net and win telc’s new “flip & talk”.
