telc English A1 Junior is an examination for children about 10 years old, who have had approximately two English lessons a week for two years.

What can you do at level A1?

At level A1, you can communicate in a very simple way about needs of a concrete type (e.g. introductions, food and drink, shopping or saying where you live). You can use a few very basic grammatical constructions.

What is the structure of the examination?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 30 minutes. The oral exam usually takes place straight after the written exam. There is no preparation time.

What is expected from you in the examination?

You can find details of the exam in the telc English A1 Junior mock examination. This is a complete test (with answer key) that you can try out at home or in your lessons. You can also read about the exam procedure and learn how the written test and oral performance are rated.

Special offer for German Schools: Standardised language level test in year 5

This test is perfectly suited to the change from primary to secondary school. Teachers can assess the language level of their students easily and objectively, for example, at the end of year 4 or as one of the first exams in year 5.

The test includes the listening, reading and writing parts of the telc English A1 Junior Mock Examination 1 and is available from our online shop. A pack includes 35 copies of the test (including answer sheets), the corresponding audio CD and an answer key.

How do the children prepare for the examination?

The children usually develop their language competence in lessons at school.

The mock examination can help to familiarise them with the procedures and types of subtests in the telc English A1 Junior examination. Pupils should familiarise themselves with the format of the examination well before taking it.

When can they take the examination?

Your telc examination centre offers examinations regularly, and centres can also offer exams on request. Please enquire at the centre to see when the next exam is scheduled. When you’re planning to take your exam, please note that your examination centre has to register the exam with telc 12 days before the exam date.

Where can they take a telc examination?

Individuals can take exams at all telc-registered examination centres, including many adult education centres. Please be aware that some examination centres do not offer the entire telc programme. To find examination centres in your area, please click here.

How much does the examination cost?

Your examination centre will inform you about the exam fee. Because each examination centre is free to determine its own exam fees, telc cannot give you any cost-related details.

Can the examination be repeated?

Yes, exams can be repeated as often as you wish. At this level, you have to repeat the whole exam (both the written and oral parts).
