telc Deutsch B2·C1 Beruf tests your German language competence in workplace oriented situations at an advanced level. The dual-level German exam offers a detailed evaluation of the major skills listening, reading, writing and speaking. As a candidate you will be given a document which states whether you are at level B2 or C1.

telc Deutsch B2·C1 Beruf is for all learners in work and business oriented German language classes. It aims to document the usage of language in various workplace oriented situations in German companies.

What can you do at levels B2 and C1?

At level B2, you can express yourself clearly and explicitly and discuss and negotiate successfully. You have a large command of the vocabulary needed for your field of specialisation and for most general topics. Your usage of grammar is sound.

At level C1, you can express yourself spontaneously and fluently. You are familiar with idiomatic phrases and can vary your style of language as appropriate. You can use the language with a high degree of grammatical accuracy.

What is the structure of the examination?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 170 minutes. There is a 20 minute break before the subtest “Writing” starts. The oral exam can take place on the day of the written exam or on another day. There is no preparation time immediately before the oral exam.

How can I prepare myself for the examination?

1. You can prepare by taking language courses or studying on your own. Many bookshops sell course books that prepare you specifically for the language level B2 and C1 for workplace purposes.

2. Familiarise yourself with the exam procedure and types of subtests in the telc Deutsch B2·C1 Beruf examination. The mock examination and the learning objectives will help you with this.

Can I use a dictionary during the exam telc Deutsch B2·C1 Beruf?

No.

When can I take the examination?

Your telc examination centre offers examinations regularly, and centres can also offer exams on request. Please enquire at the centre to see when the next exam is scheduled. When you’re planning to take your exam, please note that your examination centre has to register the exam with telc 30 days before the exam date.

Where can I take a telc examination?

Individuals can take exams at all telc-registered examination centres, including many adult education centres. Please be aware that some examination centres do not offer the entire telc programme. To find examination centres in your area, please click here.

What does the examination cost?

Your examination centre will inform you about the exam fee.

How long does it take to receive the telc Certificate?

About 80% of the certificates are sent out to the examination centre three weeks after the completed exam documents have been received at the telc head office in Frankfurt.

Can the examination be repeated?

Yes, exams can be repeated as often as you wish. In case of dual-level exams you have to repeat the exam as a whole (both the written and oral parts). You will find details on this under § 5 of the Examination Regulations.
