telc Deutsch B2·C1 Medizin

telc Deutsch B2·C1 Medizin is a dual-level German language examination for doctors seeking employment in a hospital in Germany. It tests your specific German language competence in the field of medicine as spoken in a German hospital. The lexical and structural competences are positioned at the upper end of the levels B2 and C1 respectively. The examination records your performance in the major language skills: Listening, reading, writing and speaking. A result sheet states your performance according to the levels reached: B2 or C1.

What can you do at levels B2 and C1?

At level B2 you can express yourself clearly and explicitly and also successfully discuss and negotiate. You have a large command of the vocabulary needed for your field of specialisation and for most general topics. Your usage of grammar is sound.

At level C1 you can express yourself spontaneously and fluently. You are familiar with idiomatic phrases and can vary your style of language as appropriate. You can use the language with a high degree of grammatical accuracy.

What is the structure of the examination?

 

 

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. The written examination lasts about three hours. The oral exam can take place on the day of the written examination or on another day. There is a preparation time of 10 minutes before the oral exam. After part 1 (patient’s assessment) a break of 5 minutes is given to work out one’s notes of the assessment and to prepare for the presentation of the patient’s case study.

The Lesson plans for telc Deutsch B2-C1 Medizin represent examples of tasks that are part of the workshop “Certified trainer: German for medical personnel”. The tasks are to conceptualize a teaching unit and then to write a report about it. During the workshop the participants choose a subject, devise a lesson plan for it and then write the report in order to reflect and document the lesson as it was taught.

How do I prepare myself for the examination?

  1. Gain language competence in language courses for doctors or study on your own. Bookshops have course books that prepare you specifically for the language levels B2 and C1.

May I use a dictionary during telc Deutsch B2-C1 Medizin?

No.

When can I take the examination?

Your telc examination centre offers examinations regularly, and can also offer exams upon request. Please enquire at the centre when the next exam is scheduled. When you plan, please take into consideration that your examination centre has to register the exam at telc 30 days before the exam date.

Where can I take a telc examination?

At all telc examination centres (e.g. Adult Education Centres). Please be aware that some examination centres do not offer the entire telc programme. To find the examination centres in your area, please click here.

What does the examination cost?

Your examination centre will inform you about the exam fee. Each examination centre is free to determine the exam fee individually, so unfortunately we cannot give you any details.

How long does it take for me to get my telc certificate?

80% of the certificates are sent out to the examination centre 3 weeks after the complete documents have arrived at the telc Head Office in Frankfurt.

Can I repeat the examination?

Yes, as often as you wish. You have to repeat the whole examination - the written and oral examination. You will find details on this under § 5 of the examination regulations.
