If you are interested in writing items for our examinations, the following workshop is perfect for you:
Item Writing Workshop for the telc English Programme
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is geared towards those who have experience in teaching English to young learners, university students or business professionals. Experience in test item writing is beneficial and very welcome but not mandatory.
We are looking for people who are interested in working with telc on a long-term, free-lance basis - people who enjoy creative writing within the framework that standardized language testing necessitates.
How can this workshop benefit you?
You will learn the basics of test item writing and will receive a certificate of participation. This qualification can lead to further cooperation with telc by means of an author’s contract.
Before the workshop you will be asked to familiarize yourself with the telc English mock examinations and to work on specific item writing exercises. Your drafts will be discussed and polished during the workshop. After the workshop you will be asked to write your own items to be used in a real examination and to submit them to telc by Monday, January 9, 2012.
Contents of the workshop
We will provide you with a tool kit, ideas on where to find appropriate texts and detailed information on what makes items suitable or problematic.
Further topics for discussion:
- The basics of writing for test takers
- The relevance of CEF descriptors
- Understanding and using the CEF for testing purposes
- Do’s and don’ts of item writing
- Writing for a standardized examination
