Recipes for success in English

As the annual winter celebrations get underway around the world, there are lots of fun sources of extra English practice. Christmas games and songs are popular classroom activities at this time of year, but how about a spot of festive baking to get you in the mood for the holidays?

Trying out some English-language recipes can be a creative way of tickling your linguistic taste buds. Whether you prefer a spoonful of sugar or a pinch of salt, you can pick up some useful knowledge of food and drinks vocabulary, language structures and cultural traditions from around the English-speaking world. And you’ll have something tasty to show for it at the end!

There’s a mouth-watering supply of ideas online – the BBC Good Food website is a telc favourite. So, why not put on some of your favourite English-language Christmas songs, keep you dictionary handy (but safe of spillages!) and start with something simple like some Christmas cookies? Once you start browsing the Web for seasonal recipes, there’s no limit to where you culinary curiosity may take you!
